Match Your Mate

Goal

Find out how closely two players think. Both answer the same Question aloud. If the answers mean the same thing, the moderator marks MATCH. If not, the pair gets a Task.

Setup

1. Add 2 to 10 players in Players.
2. Choose the pairing mode in Players: Random pairs, Fixed pairs, or Fixed + singles.
3. One moderator keeps the device, reads the Question and Task cards, and decides MATCH or NO MATCH.
4. In Settings, choose Audience, Intensity, and Topics for the group.

Pairing modes

• Random pairs: Cubiri draws any two players and balances participation so nobody is left out for too long.
• Fixed pairs: create permanent pairs in Players. Each round draws one of those defined pairs.
• Fixed + singles: keep permanent pairs and mark solo players as singles. When both fixed pairs and singles are available, each round has a 50% chance to use a fixed pair and a 50% chance to pair a single with a random player from the fixed-pair pool as a temporary substitute.

Settings and filters

• Audience controls who the content is suitable for.
• Intensity controls how mild or bold the content can be.
• Topics choose which kinds of Questions and Tasks may appear.
• Filters change the Question and Task pools only. They never change how players are paired.
• If the available Question or Task count becomes too small, loosen a filter before continuing.

How a round works

1. Pull the lever. The slot selects the pair and shows who starts.
2. The moderator reads the Question aloud.
3. The starter answers first, before hearing the other answer.
4. The second player answers the same Question.
5. The moderator chooses MATCH if both answers have the same intended meaning, preference, or opinion. Otherwise choose NO MATCH.
6. MATCH ends the round. NO MATCH immediately reveals a Task for that pair.
7. After the Task is completed, tap Next match to start a new round.

What counts as a match?

The words do not have to be identical. The answers must express the same intended answer according to the standard your group agreed on before play. The starter cannot change an answer after hearing the partner. For a stricter mode that completely prevents players from influencing each other, both players can first write down their answer on paper or on a smartphone. When both are ready, reveal the answers at the same time.
